If you have fallen in love with aerobics and often enjoy ordering others, then you can think of becoming an aerobic instructor. You do not need a license to start as an aerobics instructor but if you plan to work at health clubs, gyms or YMCA, then you must be a certified aerobics instructor to do so. The place where you live is the main factor, which determines the type of certification in order to work with local organizations. You can check with some local health clubs and gyms to see what kind of instructors they prefer. This understanding can help you in choosing the right sort of study program.

In the US, there are three reputed organizations namely ACE (the American Council on Exercise), ACSM (the American School of Sports Medicine) and AFAA (Aerobics and Fitness Association of America). All the three specialize in the training of a certified aerobics instructor. You can take admission in any one of these. ACE, ACSM and AFAA, all expect you to clear written as well as practical exams before providing you with a certification. For getting employment at some particular places you may also require first aid knowledge and a CPR certification. For getting these you can either go to American Heart Association or Red Cross.

If you do not have any previous experience of athletic training then it is better to go for the courses in Anatomy and Kinesiology, these courses make it easier for you to get through. For becoming a good aerobics instructor, it is very important to build a complete understanding of whatever you are taught because in future it reflects in your work and the confidence with which you teach. A good aerobics instructor is not only knowledgeable but also a fun to be with. A great instructor makes the beginners comfortable by teaching the steps slowly and patiently. It is entirely in your hands to succeed as an instructor by being sociable and outgoing so that the students look forward to your class.

Job prospects in this occupation have elevated considerably in the past few years. This elevation is basically due to the fact that more and more people are becoming aware about the importance of health and fitness. The demand of full-time as well as part-time or casual basis aerobic instructors has grown significantly. Your earning entirely depends on your capability and qualification. Certified aerobic instructors are offered good perks in fitness centers, gyms, leisure and sports centers, health studios, community organizations and self-defense centers. But the competition for these positions is undoubtedly very strong.
